Event after event the UFC continues to churn over worthy cards, and now on the heels of the UFC on Fox event comes another in UFC 139: Shogun vs. Hendo. For the first time, the UFC will invade enemy territory as their next Pay Per View takes place at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California, which has been the longtime home arena for Strikeforce, and never before hosted a UFC event. While there isn’t a scheduled title fight for the event, there will be no shortage of big names on the list, including a main event bout between Maurcio “Shogun” Rua and Dan Henderson that will have major implications in the UFC light heavyweight division.
That is because UFC President Dana White has already announced that the pay head winner of that bout will be in line for a UFC Light Heavyweight title shot. While Rua was given the rematch against Lyota Machida immediately after losing to him in their first meeting, White has chosen to go an alternate route this time with Shogun being required to prove himself against an MMA legend in Henderson if he is going to get another shot. Even at age 41, Henderson is still considered among the best in the sport, especially after vacating the Strikeforce Light Heavyweight championship against Rafael Cavalcante and then taking down Fedor Emelianenko in a heavyweight tilt. With names like Wanderlei Silva, Cung Le, and Urijah Faber, and the highly anticipated sports betting main event, UFC 139 will undoubtedly be one to look forward to.
