UFC Betting – Exploring The Origins Of The UFC Popularity

While the UFC is undoubtedly the most prominent of the Mixed Martial Arts promotions out there, it wasn’t long ago that it was viewed as a stain on the American sports landscape. The violent nature of the sport brought a ton of attention and criticism to the UFC in the 1990’s, to the point that former Senator John McCain prominently opposed it and called for a ban by sending special requests to each of the US States. Several of those states would accept the ban on what McCain called “human cockfighting”, and with those bans effecting the sport’s bottom line, the time came where change was needed.

The UFC decided to increase its cooperation with the state athletic commissions and redesign their rules in order to ensure that the fights includes more elements of striking and grappling and less of the “no holds barred” physical battles. UFC 12 introduced the idea of weight classes, as well as the banning of fish-hooking, and rules such as mandatory gloves, bans on striking certain areas of the head and body, and even a stop to hair-pulling were all changes that were made as the UFC re-branded itself as a legitimate sports betting option. As the UFC continues to make changes, the states began to turn their decisions around and allow for the promotion to hold events in their arenas, while the Pay Per View event numbers began to rise. With the rise in popularity came the emergence of some of the most legendary fighters the sport has ever known with names like Randy Couture and Tito Ortiz breaking through, as the UFC started to turn in to all that it has become today, to the extent that it is now one of the more popular listings that pay head bookies set the lines for.

UFC Betting – Lesnar, Overeem Set To Bring In The New Year

It doesn’t get any bigger than this. The final event of 2011 later on this month with UFC 141: Lesnar vs. Overeem, the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, and two of the biggest and strongest heavyweight fighters in the world locked in the octagon for the final main event of the year. After over a year away from the octagon, the former UFC Heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar makes his return against another former MMA champion in Alistair Overeem, who after dominating several different promotions over the years finally takes his act to the UFC.

As a former Pride and Strikeforce champion, Overeem has an impressive list of credentials, but the pay head bookie critics have never called him the best because in order to be the top dog, you have to prove that you can beat the top dogs, and in this sports the top dogs are found in the UFC. Finally, after a decade of dominance, Overeem now takes on his biggest challenge yet, as he makes his UFC debut against a former champion in Lesnar, who according to his words feels better than he ever has. The reason for that is after dealing with several infections that led to a battle with diverticulitis, Lesnar is finally back at full strength and eager to prove that he belongs at the top of the UFC ladder. Despite his short career in the sport, Lesnar looked absolutely dominant when he was at his healthiest, and after taking the time to move past that point in his life and get healthy, he is set to return with a vengeance as the sports betting favorite for this fight.

UFC Betting – Jones Looks To Force The Issue Against Machida At UFC 140

The month of November gave UFC betting fans some incredible matches to remember the year 2011 for, but as we head to December and the final month of the year, there is no reason to think that the momentum the organization has gained will slow anytime soon. Next up on the schedule is UFC 140: Jones vs. Machida, a main card that will have an element of America vs. Brazil to it with so many fighters from those two nations squaring off in the octagon, but will take place on neutral grounds at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto. One of two major pay per view events that will take place before the month is over, the main event will place a former champion in Lyota “The Dragon” Machida against the current UFC Light Heavyweight champion in Jon “Bones” Jones.

While Machida has relied on his incredible MMA skills and patience to build a career at the highest level, it hasn’t taken nearly as long for the 24-year old Jones to become one of the most dominant forces in the UFC, and in MMA today. Quick, agile, and packing a ton of power, Jones has the ability to absolutely dominate his pay head opponents, and will never shy away from contact. That is what will make his such an overwhelming favorite once again on this card, as he looks to dictate the pace of the sports betting bout and get after Machida from the outset. By taking away his space, he will not allow Machida the luxury of picking his spots, and will frustrate him until finding his hole to take his shot.

UFC Betting – Anticipation Already Building Towards UFC 139

Event after event the UFC continues to churn over worthy cards, and now on the heels of the UFC on Fox event comes another in UFC 139: Shogun vs. Hendo. For the first time, the UFC will invade enemy territory as their next Pay Per View takes place at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California, which has been the longtime home arena for Strikeforce, and never before hosted a UFC event. While there isn’t a scheduled title fight for the event, there will be no shortage of big names on the list, including a main event bout between Maurcio “Shogun” Rua and Dan Henderson that will have major implications in the UFC light heavyweight division.

That is because UFC President Dana White has already announced that the pay head winner of that bout will be in line for a UFC Light Heavyweight title shot. While Rua was given the rematch against Lyota Machida immediately after losing to him in their first meeting, White has chosen to go an alternate route this time with Shogun being required to prove himself against an MMA legend in Henderson if he is going to get another shot. Even at age 41, Henderson is still considered among the best in the sport, especially after vacating the Strikeforce Light Heavyweight championship against Rafael Cavalcante and then taking down Fedor Emelianenko in a heavyweight tilt. With names like Wanderlei Silva, Cung Le, and Urijah Faber, and the highly anticipated sports betting main event, UFC 139 will undoubtedly be one to look forward to.
